My final project was in the form of an exhibition in Bonnington Gallery. I created a series of landscape images that were projected onto three walls. I felt that an exhibition done in this way would immerse the viewer more effectively and create a strong sense of power.
Concept: My final project explores the narrative of trying to survive the night and then embracing the day when the time comes. In my life, I have been made to feel like expressing vulnerability by sharing my emotions is a bad thing. This is because being emotional is seen as inherently feminine and our patriarchal society sees femininity as a weakness. Women are casually told all the time that they overreact or are overemotional, and this can be especially frustrating and upsetting to deal with during a difficult time.
However, there is an abundance that happens in vulnerability, so many beautiful things happen when you let down your walls, and it allows you to move through tough circumstances. Although it is natural to feel anger for the things that happen to you, the narrative of my project aims to remind the audience to let other emotions in when they feel it is safe for them to do so. I want to display this with a strong use of place, texture and tone.
